Well, Pat and I have our travel plans all fleshed out. We are leaving tomorrow morning (Monday) and
heading north. We will be following the
Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive north with stops in Asheville, NC and cousin
George’s then on to Harper’s Ferry, Antietam Battlefield, Gettysburg and Valley
Forge. We will then be coming home via
the DELMARVA peninsula and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel through Norfolk.
Should be fun. We've never driven the Blue Ridge or been to
these battlefields before and though we've driven up and down I-95 dozens of
times we've never taken the eastern shore route so it should prove interesting.
John, if you get this, I recommend you plan a stop, for lunch if timing works, at the Chateau Morrisette Winery. It is right beside the Blue Ridge Parkway in (I think) Floyd County, VA. Exit SR 726, which is about mile 174 on the parkway. Beautiful winery, pretty good wines (but this ain't California) and great restaurant. Sit outside for views of the VA countryside. Get there before lunch and do a tasting, then you can pick the wine you want with lunch. Great fun. This is about 2 hours from us.
